FAQ

I have PUR residues on my panel; can this be repaired invisibly?

PUR residues can usually be removed neatly, subject to the extent and position. So far, we have been able to repair everything

Don't you have a product for that, so I can remove it myself?

PUR has an adhesive effect and is stuck fast to coatings and various other substrates. Sometimes you’re lucky enough to carefully scrape it off with a sharp knife in an inconspicuous spot. Usually, PUR leaves a stain behind. PUR cleaners are very aggressive, so keep in mind that most coatings are made of polyurethane, which means the substrate can also be damaged!

We first sand the PUR off. Then we apply primer to the panel and repaint it in the correct color. So far, this is the only option; there are no other methods or products available

What products do you use? Is it the same as what is on the panels?

Panels and profiles are in 9 out of 10 cases coated with a coil coating, also known as pre-painted steel or aluminum. Examples include colorcoat prisma, PVDF, silicone polyester, HPS plastisol, etc. Coil coating is a factory-applied process at high temperature and therefore cannot be used for repairs.

The products we use originate from the automotive industry and are specially developed and applicable for repair work on sandwich panels and profiles. The paints seamlessly match the durability and appearance of the applied coil coat. We are familiar with all types of coating systems and have the most common colors in stock

What about color differences?

No color or building is the same, of course. Every new coil, despite having the same RAL code or name, has a slightly different color or tint. This is often because most pigments for paint and varnish are derived from nature, leading to variations with each delivery. In the case of metallic finishes, there is another dimension known in the industry as ‘flop.’ This refers to how the metallic particles settle on the surface, which can create a dark or light effect. It’s similar to a long-haired carpet; the color doesn’t change, but when you rub over it, you create lighter or darker spots.

Buildings and cladding discolor over the years. One of our specializations is that we ‘tint’ the color on-site with the right pigments to match the existing color.

Van Heemskerk has mastered the techniques to mix the most suitable color during repairs. We strive to carry out repairs in a way that makes them ‘invisibly unnoticeable’ to the customer’s satisfaction!

What is your area of work?

What does it cost?

Costs are often difficult to estimate in advance. This depends on various factors, such as the scope, lighting, accessibility, type of paint, and local conditions.

Cost considerations are also viewed in the context of replacement, dismantling, removing the finishing, and construction with the risk of damage, leaks, etc. Many sandwich panels are often assembled with concealed fasteners and cannot usually be simply removed. Additionally, new deliveries almost always have color differences, which is why repairing and repainting is often more cost-effective in many cases.
