In most cases, the damage can be repaired to be ‘inconspicuously invisible.’ By this, we mean that someone who does not know where the damage was beforehand will not be able to find the repair! Of course, this does depend on the local conditions and the state of the substrate.

Panels and profiles are in 9 out of 10 cases equipped with a coil coating, also known as pre-painted steel or aluminum. For example, Colorcoat Prisma, PVDF, silicone polyester, HPS plastisol, etc. Coil coating is a factory-applied process under high temperature and therefore cannot be used for repairs.

The products we use originate from the automotive industry and have been specifically developed and are applicable for repair work on sandwich panels and profiles. The paints seamlessly match the durability and appearance of the applied coil coat. We are familiar with all types of coating systems and have the most common colors in stock.

No color or building is the same, of course. Each new coil, despite having the same RAL code or name, can have a different color or hue. This is often due to the fact that most pigments for paint and lacquer are derived from nature, leading to differences in each delivery. With metallic finishes, there is another dimension referred to in the trade as ‘flop.’ This describes how the metallic particles rest on the surface, which can create a dark or light effect. It’s similar to a long-haired carpet; the color doesn’t change, but if you rub over it, you get light or dark spots.

Buildings and cladding fade over the years. One of our areas of expertise is that the color is ‘retinted’ on-site with the right pigments, allowing us to match the existing color.

Costs are often difficult to estimate in advance. This depends on various factors, such as the scope, exposure, accessibility, type of paint, and local conditions.

The cost assessment is also considered in light of replacing, dismantling, and removing the finish and construction, which carries risks of damage, leakage, etc. Many sandwich panels are often installed with concealed fasteners and usually cannot be easily removed. Additionally, new deliveries almost always have color differences, so repairing and spray work is often more cost-effective.
